Santa Claus's home in Lapland is very big tourist attraction. Here come tourists from all over the world. There are so many people in the days before Christmas. Most of them are from Europe and Japan. The home of good old man is situated several kilometres from the capital Rovaniemi. The house is in little town Corvatuntury.
The popularity of Lapland came in the beginning of 50s of XX century. By then behind Polar circle the land was absolute wilderness. Then here came the widow of American president Franklin Roosevelt - Eleanor. The house of good old man was built little before Eleanor's arriving. It is situated 9 kilometres from Rovaniemi. Near the house there is road and native people started to sell souvenirs to a few tourists which came here. By then the territory wasn't so popular in Finland and in the world. The destination gets up very quickly popular. More frequently here come curious tourists from foreign countries. They come in the days before Christmas. This continued to 1985 when the home of Santa Claus was reconstructed and opened for all year visits for children and their parents. In 1995 the region was proclaimed for official capital of Santa Claus.
In Rovaniemi are not only the house of Santa Clause, his office and post. In 1996 here was built entertainment park Santa Park. The idea is to convince the most sceptic children of existence Santa Claus. Amusement centre can hold 50,000 people in the weeks before Christmas. The tourist attraction works active from November to January. Sometimes the Santa Park opens the door in summer, but only in cases when there are people which want to see the interesting park. The park is a big cave in which there is merry-go-round and numerous stalls of dwarfs with different souvenirs and decorations. Lapland is very interesting destination for tourists from all over the world.
