Scientists found an enormous underwater volcano, situated only 40 kilometers far from the South coast of the Italian island Sicily.
The volcano is called after the ancient Greek doctor and philosopher Empedokolus, who developed the idea of the four elements - fire, air, water and earth.
The ground of the volcano exceeds with its size the surface of Rome and is higher than the Eifel tower in Paris. Its highest part is just 7 meters under the water's surface.
The volcano is asleep and the scientists think that it wouldn't be a threat in the near future.
The ground of the volcano is over 750 square kilometers and its height is 400 meters.
Experts believe that earlier this volcano might have been an island.
This discovery helped the scientists understand that many underwater cracks are actually huge volcanoes.
It is only 100 kilometers away from the biggest working volcano in Europe - Etna.
