LA is rising above true finding of fossils of animals, dating 40 000 years.

Every day the scientists dig out new fossils from this spot, which is situated near to the big boulevards of the city.

The area called "La Brea" - the plain, on which is situated LA, is the only region in the world with naturally formed holes. In those hollows many live organisms found their death, because thousands of years back in time in that area there was a natural release of hydrocarbon from the Earth. So the animals that were passing through that area were poisoned.

Since 1969y. this area was studied by palaentologists and during every study they dig out 4 million peaces - different parts of bones and teeth.

"The finding is so big, that we will dig out bones for at least 20 more years", claims John Harris - head of the yearly study missions.

Only for the last year palaentologists had dig out 3000 bones - from mouse jaws to legs of mammoths. The animals fell into the death trap while they tried to go from the Pacific Ocean to the mountains around the plain, on which is rising the 17 million city.

"Wherever you turn your look, there are only bones", explained one of the assistants of the scientist and adds: "For the 12 years in which I assist every summer in the dig outs, I dig out probably at least 5000 years natural history."
