Australia is very big, about 7 million square miles of what is mostly desert. Here they call the desert `the outback`. In the outback, there are aborigines who hunt animals and they take all they need from the desert. They travel on foot and can find water even in the desert. In the middle of Australia is the famous red mountain Ayers Rock. It can take a whole day to go up and down the mountain. Canberra is the capital but, perhaps the most important city is Sydney. There is a famous opera house called Sydney Opera House by the sea that has an unusual shape. The roofs look like white sails. If you are an animal lover, there are many strange animals to look at. Kangaroos go about. Like the kangaroo, the koala is also very famous. The koalas usually sit up in eucalyptus trees because eucalyptus leaves are their favourite food. The country is so big that people need months to see it.
